Domestic and Global Determinants of Inflation: Evidence from Expectile Regression*

چکیده

This paper investigates the role of domestic and global determinants core inflation in euro area. We analyse entire conditional distribution by estimating a Phillips curve type relationship with method expectile regression, here extended to capture time-varying effects. Both foreign output gap appear drive area inflation. Domestic has bigger influence right tail than left tail, providing evidence nonlinearity curve. In perspective, we find an increase response at lower quantiles higher pass-through prices all regions distribution. Overall, on so-called ‘globalization hypothesis’ is mixed as impact slack remained broadly stable over time.

Globalisation and inflation: New cross-country evidence on the global determinants of domestic inflation, May 2007

There has been mounting evidence that the inflation process has been changing. Inflation is now much lower and much more stable around the globe. And its sensitivity to measures of economic slack and increases in input costs appears to have declined. Probably the most widely supported explanation for this phenomenon is that monetary policy has been much more effective. There is no doubt in our ...

The Impact of Exchange Rate Pass-Through via Domestic Prices on Inflation in Iran: New Evidence from a Threshold Regression

There are various causes for inflation in macroeconomics. One of the important channels of experiencing inflation is through the international economy caused by external shocks. In this context, the impact of exchange rate volatilities on domestic prices known as Exchange Rate Pass-Through (ERPT) plays a vital role. The present paper deals with the impact of Exchange Rate Pass-Through on inflat...

Globalisation and the determinants of domestic inflation, March 2008

The remarkable stability of low domestic inflation in many countries requires explanation. In this paper, a number of competing hypotheses are evaluated on a stand-alone basis, and all are found to be inadequate. This includes the view that this outcome has been solely the result of more effective disinflationary monetary policies. However, a combination of these hypotheses (including a signifi...

On confidence intervals for semiparametric expectile regression

In regression scenarios there is a growing demand for information on the conditional distribution of the response beyond the mean. In this scenario quantile regression is an established method of tail analysis. It is well understood in terms of asymptotic properties and estimation quality. Another way to look at the tail of a distribution is via expectiles. They provide a valuable alternative s...
